Daily Devotion on 1 Peter 5:1-4

Text:  1 Peter 5:1-4

Sometimes TV Evangelists make me sick. Some (not all) are preaching a message that doesn’t belong in the ears of God’s people. Some push political agendas. Some ask for money, even demand more money. Some promise a better world if only one follows Jesus–something Jesus doesn’t promise!

These are not the kinds of shepherds of God’s people that the Lord describes in Scripture!

Peter reminds us what shepherds do. Pastors and leaders of the church are servants. They serve God’s people. They watch out for God’s people. They are examples to God’s people.

Sometimes it is hard to find church leaders that are such willing shepherd servants! As we daily pray for ourselves and for others, we can remember to include prayers to the Lord of the Church that he would continue to provide loving and willing shepherds for his people. Pray that God provides these shepherds, and pray that these shepherds faithfully serve and watch over the sheep entrusted to them!

Prayer:  Heavenly Father, continue to provide for your people with shepherds that are willing to lead, to love, to serve, and to guide. Fill pastors and church leaders with your Holy Spirit that they might rightfully wield the Sword of Truth and proclaim the good news of salvation. We pray in your name, Amen.
