Daily Devotion on Acts 26:19-29

Text: Acts 26:19-29

Do you have the heart of a missionary?

This particular story from Acts brought a smile to my face. It continues to amaze me that even though I have read through the Bible several times, every time I open the Bible I am pleasantly surprised by one or another story. This week as I continue to bask in the glow of Easter, this account of Paul before Agrippa is one of those pleasant surprises.

If you are wondering what the heart of a missionary looks like, look no further than Paul. “Short time or long – I pray God that not only you but all who are listening to me today may become what I am.”

Paul was in it for the long haul. In a very short time he had become a believer in the risen and ascended Lord Jesus. He had repented from his sins and was now living his life proving that his repentance was more than just lip service. Paul dedicated his life to God, Paul dedicated his life to being a missionary.

Now, God is not asking that you quit your job and travel the globe to prove your repentance like Paul. God does ask you to prove your repentance by whatever you do end up doing in your life. You are a Christian and God expects you to live and act like one. One of the ways he has asked you to live like the Christians you are is by being a missionary to your little corner of the globe.

Confidence, persistence and patience are three major attributes found in Paul’s heart which are found in the heart of every missionary.

Confidence that your message is true and important. Confidence that Jesus died for your sins and rose again giving you hope in this world no matter what.

Persistence and patience because not everyone is going to believe the first time you tell them about Jesus. Persistence and patience because the devil is working hard to undo and undermine the message of Jesus as savior. Persistence and patience because you know that nothing is more important than believing in Jesus and as a missionary you want everyone you know and love to be in heaven rather than hell.

Do you have the heart of a missionary? In Jesus resurrection you can find the hope, strength and reason to live your life like Paul, to live your life as a missionary for Jesus.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, you have called us into your family. You have bought our ticket to heaven with the blood of your Son. Give us the strength to live our live not as a member of this world but as a member of your family. Help us to live as Christians, displaying Jesus’ love to the world around us. Give us the words to say, the confidence, persistence, and patience to be your missionaries for as long as we live. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
