Daily Devotion on Romans 8:31-39

Text:  Romans 8:31-39

Have you paid any attention to Charlie Sheen and his antics in this last year? Actually, he’s been up to no good for much longer than a year or two. If you haven’t kept track, your life is probably better off anyways!

Regardless of your interest in a celebrity’s shenanigans, Charlie Sheen made a lot of noise last year as he hit an all time low for his life. Even though it was clear to everyone else in the world that he was in rough shape, he continually used this catch phrase to describe his life:  “Winning!”

Most laughed at him because clearly he wasn’t winning at anything except for an attention-getting contest.

But what about your life? Do you feel like you are winning? Or might you more often feel like you are losing?

It can be easy to feel like “losers” in this life. We lose friends over silly things. We lose family members to death. We lose money in the stock market. We lose in battles with temptation. We lose our confidence. We lose our sense of worth. We lose our sense of purpose.

Though we might regularly feel like we are losing, Paul reminds us that we are in fact winning. Or as he says it, We are more than conquerors through him who loved us. The picture behind the word conquerors is the concept of winning.

Then, amazingly, Paul goes on to relate to us that we are actually conquerors–winners–in every situation of life. Why? Because there is absolutely nothing that can separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

What gracious mercy from our God, that he would promise that nothing could ever separate us from his love and forgiveness. Oh yes, we are WINNING!

Prayer:  Lord God, heavenly Father, every day I face countless struggles–problems, pains, persecutions, trials, troubles, and temptations. Strengthen me with your gracious love and keep me ever mindful of your continual presence and power. For through you and with you I know that I am a conqueror in all things. Amen.
