Daily Devotion on Acts 13:1-5
Text: Acts 13:1-5
What stops you from serving Jesus with your whole heart, soul, and mind?
Some don’t care about Jesus. Some have a weak faith that needs to be strengthened. Some view the church as a place to be served rather than serve. These, of course, are sinful reasons. These may not be your particular stumbling block and for that I praise God. Many of us may struggle more with the how rather than the why. We know why we should serve Jesus. He loved us enough to die for our sins. He won our love, respect and service on the cross and at the empty tomb. How should we or how can we serve Jesus is the struggle that most Christians have.
Some want to serve but just don’t know how. Some have the will to serve but just have not been asked. Wouldn’t it be much easier to serve Jesus and his Church if God himself, face to face, had asked you to carry out a specific task like he did for Barnabas and Saul? If the Holy Spirit whispered his request in your ear you would know exactly what to do, but up to this point you haven’t had that revelation. Or have you?…
I have never had the Holy Spirit speak into my ear but I nevertheless know what the Holy Spirit would have me do, and so can you.
The secret is found in the Word of God we do have available, aka the Bible. In the Bible we see Jesus look at you and me with this request, “Come follow me.” In the Bible all Christians are told by God to do certain things. We are told to love. We are told to serve others in humility. We are told to preach the word of God just as Saul and Barnabas were.
Jesus has called you. Will you follow? Open your eyes to the opportunities to show the love of Christ to the world around you!
Prayer: Heavenly Father, by grace we have been saved. Jesus lived and died for us. Forgive us when we fail to live our lives as Christians. Help us to see the people in our lives that need to see and hear the love of Jesus. Give us opportunities to daily show you how thankful we are by living according to your will. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
