Daily Devotion on Psalm 111
Text: Psalm 111
“Great are the works of the Lord.”
You can say that again! Just look around. Look at the sand on the seashore, the mountains, the stars and planets, the marvel of childbirth. But don’t stop there. Look at everything in this universe.
Then look at everything God has given to us. He provides for us. He cares for us. He “gives us this day our daily bread.”
Yet in verse 9 this psalmist reminds us of the greatest truth and wonder of God: “God has provided redemption for his people.” Of all God’s wondrous deeds and gracious gifts, he has given us the forgiveness of sins and life everlasting in heaven!
This is what Simeon and Anna rejoiced over in the temple. This is what we rejoice over every day at Christmas. Indeed, “To him belongs eternal praise!”
Prayer: Lord, we thank and praise you for all your wondrous deeds. We especially praise you for the gift of your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who has provided for us redemption for all eternity. To you be all glory. Amen.
