Daily Devotion on Mark 13:32-37

Text: Mark 13:32-37

Thanksgiving is done, now what? In this world it is easy to get in a rut. Every morning I wake up, take a shower, go to work, eat food, watch some TV, spend some time with my family, go to bed and get up the next day to do the same thing all over again. It can get hard at times to find joy and happiness in the doldrums of daily life. How do you find motivation and drive in a world that seems to be repeating itself every day?

A new church year is beginning. In Advent the meaning of this earthly life is set before us. We don’t know when the end is coming. At any minute this world as we know it could come to an end. At any minute we could stand before God on Judgment day. Talk about meaning and excitement in life! Jesus warns us in Mark to “be on alert!” If the big day could come at any minute we need to know God now because waiting just one minute could be one minute too long.

Advent gives us the opportunity to examine our lives and determine how we can serve God knowing that the next word we speak could be our last. Advent encourages us to live the life of a witness, always sharing the immensely important message of Christ Jesus.

Prayer:  Heavenly Father, forgive us for the times we forget your purpose for us in life. Help us to turn from the despair that accompanies meaningless life to the hope and joy that comes with Christians preparedness. Thank you for providing the forgiveness we need to face Judgment Day with confidence. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
