Daily Devotion on 2 Corinthians 13:5-8

Devotion Text: 2 Corinthians 13:5-8

Sure God has forgiven my sins, I hear that every Sunday! But God, I need help now!

What good do Bible stories, platitudes, or Christian niceties accomplish when our lives are so messed up right now? God, don’t you know about my family troubles? Don’t you know about my sick friend? Don’t you know about all of my bills and how little work there is in this county?

God knows. God cares. God has the solution.

Forgiveness is not just a story or a platitude. Forgiveness is not a nicety that is meant to just make us feel better. Forgiveness is real. Forgiveness has changed our status before God, removing not only the feelings of guilt, but the effects.

Forgiveness cures the sickness and all of its symptoms.

This forgiveness, which comes to us through faith, changes everything about us that could ever need changing. Because you have that faith, you have the strength to get through the trials in your life. Because you have been forgiven, you have the power to trust in God when everything else fails. Because your sins have been removed, you have a future forever in heaven.

With the illness cured, why live as sick people any longer? Paul says that we, now forgiven, will find ourselves passing the tests that God puts in our lives. We will find ourselves living less and less in the sin that has been forgiven.

The forgiveness that we hear about on Sunday changes us, and that is the greatest help we could ever ask for.

Prayer: Lord, lead us not into temptation and deliver us from evil. Help me pass the tests you put before me. Focus my heart on the forgiveness you have won for me and let me live as one of your forgiven children now until you take me to live forever with you in heaven. Amen.
