Video of the Week: Speak, O Lord
One of God’s greatest gifts to his Church in modern times is the song writing trio of Keith & Kristyn Getty and Stuart Townend. These three have collaborated on marvelous new hymns such as In Christ Alone, The Power of the Cross, There is a Higher Throne, and many more. The three embody what blended worship is all about. The songs they produce are more melodic and upbeat in nature, generally making them a little more catch and easy to sing. Yet most importantly, the text of each song is filled with rich imagery and meaningful lyrics about our salvation through Jesus Christ.
Speak, O Lord is yet another hymn that spans the times of old and new while conveying a powerful message. This hymn reminds us of the power of God’s holy Word as it changes and affects our lives. As Keith comments at the beginning of the video below, it was written specifically for pastors. However, the words have special meaning for all of us as we listen to the Word of God.
Enjoy the video below of Keith and Kristyn performing Speak, O Lord in a smooth-jazz sort of style. The lyrics to the hymn are below it. Under the words you’ll find a different performance–the song sung by the College Choir of Martin Luther College. Both renditions are beautiful.
Speak, O Lord, as we come to You,
To receive the food of Your holy word.
Take Your truth, plant it deep in us;
Shape and fashion us in Your likeness,
That the light of Christ might be seen today,
In our acts of love and our deeds of faith.
Speak, O Lord, and fulfill in us all your purposes,
For Your glory.
Teach us Lord full obedience,
Holy reverence, true humility.
Test our thoughts and our attitudes,
In the radiance of Your purity.
Cause our faith to rise,
Cause our eyes to see,
Your majestic love and authority.
Words of power that can never fail;
Let their truth prevail over unbelief.
Speak, O Lord, and renew our minds;
Help us grasp the heights of Your plans for us.
Truths unchanged from the dawn of time,
That will echo down through eternity.
And by grace we’ll stand on Your promises;
And by faith we’ll walk as You walk with us.
Speak, O Lord, till Your church is built,
And the earth is filled with Your glory.
